How My Miscarriage Changed My Life - Saviela’s Story

In January 2013, my husband and I lost our first child due to an ectopic pregnancy better known as a tubal pregnancy.

I nearly lost my life that day, because I was bleeding internally for days. Occasionally, I shed a tear over the loss of my unborn child that I will never know.

Recently, I had one of those days when the memories flooded my mind and I became overwhelmed with emotions.

As my husband and I were resting in bed, I begin to cry on his chest. As the tears started to flow, he knew exactly why I was crying without me saying a word.

He said, “Babe, I know it hurts, but you have to realize one thing, “Yes, you did not birth a child, but you did birth something.”

I looked at him confused.

Then he said, “You birthed your gift of writing”.

I had an “Aha moment.”

It clicked.

My first published article was, “Life After a Miscarriage” and it was based on the events that happened during those tragic days. After this article was published, I received countless emails, messages, calls from strangers, family and friends who all thanked me for sharing my story and giving them hope.

Society wants us to sweep these things under the rug and pretend it never happened.

When that happens, we do not heal completely.

All it takes is one baby announcement or one mother posting about her beautiful newborn child to resurrect something we thought we buried. We become bitter and find ourselves disconnecting from the life we once enjoyed.

I found out that writing helps me heal.

When I get down or depressed, I look at the many encouraging comments I received and immediately I begin to feel gratitude because I finally see the fruits of my purpose. I can honestly say now that I am no longer bitter but I’m better. God has replaced sadness with joy. I have a promise over my life of one day having children and that gives me hope to continue on.

You may not understand why certain things have happened in your life, but if you are living a surrendered life in Christ, you can be at peace knowing that everything is working together for your good (Romans 8:28).

In time, the reason why it happened will be revealed to you.

Ask yourself this question: What can I learn from this? How can I help someone else with the same thing I have been through?

Then ask God to reveal His plan and purpose to you. Continue to praise God until He answers your prayer.
