In the article, "My Journey: Cancer to 5K," Nancy Backues describes her cancer journey. She was diagnosed in 2010 with an aggressive form of cancer located in the muscle of her thigh that required surgery, radiation, and physical therapy treatments.
As a mother of small children, she struggled with many of the what if questions related to the disease and her future prognosis. She initially was fearful, but soon found herself filled with the peace of God.
Throughout her journey, Nancy learned many lessons:
- God is in control of all our circumstances.
- God was with her on both the good days and bad days.
- God was faithful and met her physical, spiritual and financial needs just at the right time.
Nancy's journey became an inspiration to others as her Special Assignment involved training for and completing a 5k race held by her church, James River Assembly of God, in Ozark, MO. Her motivation for the training was to celebrate God's blessings and healing in her life. The physical training was especially difficult due to the removal of the thigh muscle, but she was given support from friends who provided encouragement and motivated her to complete the race.
Nancy's journey with cancer became a period of time that required both physical and spiritual training. She found that she never walked alone and God was with her every step of the way. We encourage you to read Nancy's complete story published in the Pentecostal Evangel, November 2012 edition.
