Closer Walk

"When you do have a serious illness, God is there for you."

-Jim

During a serious illness, Jim found peace in knowing God was with him every step of the way.

  • During a serious illness, Jim found peace in knowing God was with him every step of the way.
  • God was not only with Jim but comforted him throughout his illness.
  • Jim was more concerned for his family than himself; he was experiencing God’s peace.
  • The rest of his life was impacted by this experience of drawing near to God.

Words to Live By
:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”  Proverbs 3:5 (NIV).

Dr. Ron’s Perspective:

Illness of any type can leave you feeling alone and create a sense that you are a burden to your family. Caregivers and loved ones are often facing fear as they wonder what impact your illness will have on their own lives.  It’s tempting to worry about many things, like who will care for your family, what will happen with your job or if you will have enough money. Your loved ones might be keeping these same fears bottled up inside because they don’t want to upset you. They may also feel tremendous guilt for thinking about their own needs.  In short, this can be a stressful time for everyone. However, it is also a wonderful opportunity for family members to bond together and work as a team. This is an excellent way for families to stay close during hard times. Take the time to be honest, and share feelings and fears with one another. Most importantly, remember God is always there to provide hope and comfort for all of you.

Grace Notes by Philip Yancey

“I believe in the resurrection primarily because I have gotten to know God.  I know that God is love, and I also know that we human beings want to keep alive those whom we love. I do not let my friends die; they live on in my memory and my heart long after I have stopped seeing them” (113).

“Just a Closer Walk with Thee”

Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
I am weak, but Thou art strong,
Jesus, keep me from all wrong,
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.
Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.
When my feeble life is o’er,
Time for me will be no more,
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom’s shore, to Thy shore
