Colin’s Mom Takes Action Against Bullying
“It’s ok the kids are mean to me. I know I’m frustrating.”
-Colin
Jennifer’s heart broke when her son, Colin, shared this insight. Colin’s disabilities make social skills extremely difficult for him to manage and as a result, a wall emerged with Colin on one side and his classmates on the other. His mother felt powerless and unable to protect her isolated son. In her sorrow, she prayed, and God gave her an idea to start a Facebook page.
Some points to think about if your child is a victim of bullies:
God cares about each of us.
As a mother loves her child, God loves and wants good things for each of us.
When facing tough times, take your problems to God.
Jennifer recognized she was unable to “fix” this problem and sought help from God.
Obedience can be difficult at times.
Jennifer struggled with obeying God’s direction to start the Facebook page. She worried that people would think she was silly or “dumb.”
Obedience brings blessings.
Jennifer created the Facebook page which turned the family’s pain into joy. Colin established numerous online friendships, received 100,000 birthday wishes in the mail and over 2,000,000 Facebook “likes.” His family even received a trip to DisneyWorld!
God has a Special Assignment for each of us.
God is using Jennifer in multiple ways in the fight against bullies. She is a voice for the voiceless and an encourager to the discouraged. Her advocacy has brought bullying to the spotlight, forcing schools and parents to deal with a difficult issue.
Your story may help someone else.
