I Believe in Miracles

The exhilaration and anxiousness built as the parents of two small boys entered the ultrasound room. The special day had arrived. Would they be a house full of high-octane boys, or would they be bringing a little sugar and spice into their lives? The excitement quickly turned to fear as the tech urgently instructed them to head straight to the ER.
Afraid, Jamie asked, “will my baby live?” The tech responded, “I don’t know.” She was soon told that there was no amniotic fluid, and that without it her baby would have a zero percent chance of being compatible with life. The physician recommended that she consider having an abortion. Jamie and her husband had always been Pro-Life, but she still wondered, “Is this the best thing for her?” After much prayer, the couple decided that they could not be responsible for their baby’s death.
Although they were confident in their decision, their journey proved to be a challenge, a lesson amply captured by Jamie’s father’s words, “Do what you can, let God do the rest.”
Jamie recalls with still raw emotion the triumph of their choice to trust God,
“We know we got a miracle that day, and that is why she’s here!”
Some points to think about when dealing with a challenging report:
God has the ultimate say
Jesus made the lame, walk. He made the blind, see. He raised the dead. God has the ultimate say; His power can do anything that He wills. We can take guidance from medical professionals, but be assured that the final word comes from God.
Our God deals with impossibles; it’s what makes Him God
Medical staff who had worked at the hospital for over thirty years said that they had never seen a baby whose lungs worked when they should not have, but Tessa’s worked perfectly!
Be extra sensitive to those who are struggling with difficult challenges
Jamie recalled the voices of so many people who told her she was foolish to waste her life for a baby that didn’t have a chance. Strive to be a friend who is supportive, be like the Ultrasound Tech, who delivered hope in their hopeless situation.
Don’t doubt the truth of God’s Word, even when things get difficult
If you have doubts or if you don’t know what to do, God will help you find clarity. He knows our struggles and just what we need.
Pray for God to intervene
Many people took the time to pray and speak life into Jamie’s seemingly hopeless situation.
Fulfill your Special Assignment
Find a way to help others who may be going through a similar challenge. Jamie has formed “Tessa’s Treats” as a way of providing snacks for parents with babies in the NICU.
